Here is a highly controversial film from Uruguay, South America.

A young woman named Elisa dreams of opening her own hairdressing salon in a rich district of Montevideo. But one day, after a fight with her boyfriend and boss Garcia (over his refusal to get married), Elisa takes her two kids and moves from the house. So, within a 24 hour span, Elsia finds herself without a home, without a man, without a job and without money. Her friend Loulou suggests a job at a brothel. But this rather naïve decision soon finds Elisa in a life-threatening world of white slavery and transvestites' gang wars.

Winner of numerous South American and European Arts awards (including Best Film and Best Actress for Mariana Satangelo Goldman), this movie is a stark and shocking example of relatively unknown South American cinema. This Uruguayan film, the winner at the São Paulo Film Festival (originally a box-office hit in Uruguay) is a shocking, intelligent, and even funny film (in the style of Bigus Luna's AGES OF LULU).
